“I Am the Poetry.”

by Guerda Victor

I’m from the city of Poets.

And I don’t write poetry.

I just write shit and make them sound poetic.

I embellish my rhetoric with umms of reflective tones to make it sound like I just said some really deep shit.

Look at you, I got you mesmerized by my words even though I ain’t saying shit.

You see it’s all in the energy.

It’s all in the Free-Queency.

It is My Queen inner-chi that gives me freedom.

The freedom that allows me to roam freely in the dome that is your mind and causes you to uncover what may be lurking in the dark.

Are you afraid of the dark?

I used to be.

Now the dark is where I alchemize the gold that is within me.

The gold I spit out every time I speak the truth that rocks you to your core.

The truth that I speak expands consciousness and collapses the distortions embedded in your psyche.

Oh, snap there I go again sounding poetic.

I am from the city of Poets.

And I ain’t no poet

I just say shit and make them sound poetic.

Like I just did here.

My natural ability to have you spellbound with just a few lines is as easy as breathing.

Because I AM the poetry.

About the author:

My name is Guerda.  I recently discovered that I have a knack for poetry.  When I was younger, I used to believe that I was not talented or that I lacked creativity.  I was always fascinated by people who could just write beautiful rhymes effortlessly.  I secretly envied them. Then I became an entrepreneur, and I began writing content for my audience.  I realized I was a great writer, yet still didn’t believe that I could write poetry.  But I started to notice something about my writing. They started to have a poetic flare to them. And I thought it was just me noticing and other people started to tell me the same thing.

And then around this time last here it all started to come together when a friend invited me to open mic. I kept feeling this strong pull to go up and read some of my writing, but I was too self-conscious to go up. By the time that I had mustered up the courage to go it was too late.  I was so mad at myself, and I left there with regret. I made the decision then that I would not let this happen again.  I went home and decided to sit down and write a poem with the intent of going back to that place to read it.

From that day forward, my poetic muse was unleashed.  I discovered not only do I enjoy writing, but I also enjoy reading. I also made another discovery that my father is from a city in Haiti called Jeremie. Well turns out Jeremie is known as the birthplace of poets. Even though I was not born in Jeremie I feel like poetry is in my blood. So, I am going to take that and run with it.

This is my journey of how I became a poet. This is my first time ever entering any type of contest for my creativity let alone writing poetry.

These days when I am not teaching yoga or moonlighting as a massage therapist. You can find me dancing Kizomba, Bachata, and Konpa. As well as writing on Substack on all things consciousness.
